I have been a General Contractor in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1991. I began in construction with my father Richard A. Brown in 1977 and I'm a fourth generation builder.
After 25 years as a General Contractor in the Bay Area I am moving to Mora, New Mexico. I will begin to build my own custom home and you can follow its construction at www.jbgcontractor.com/happily. I received my New Mexico Contractors license in 2016 and will keep my California License as well.
While building my house in New Mexico I plan to keep working for clients in New Mexico and California.
I am a Certified Green Building Professional through Build it Green, and Lead certified by the EPA. Green building and renewable resources are a big part of my work. The Cal Green code is a big step towards more efficient and energy conscious building. Build it Green takes it further with trainings and certifications.
In the 30+ years I've been doing construction, Bay Area building has gone through many changes. I remember doing foundations because people wanted their house to be level. Seismic retrofitting for me began around 1979 because I remember the first roto-hammers and smaller demolition hammers coming on the market. The lumber yards hand wrote yard and material tags for what you purchased. Emeryville was still mostly industrial, a place to go get blades sharpened, rebar and other building related materials.
I work on all types of new and remodel residential and some commercial. Visit the PHOTO GALLERY to see some pictures of my projects.
It's been a lot of fun and now I have a smart phone, an Ipad. and lasers as a part of the tools I use everyday. I still have my tool belt and a roto-hammer in the truck. I look forward to new innovations in the industry as my father saw drywall and power saws make their entrance years ago.
I incorporate the Aloha spirit into all of my work. Mahalo
We are a full service construction company. I take great care and pride in ensuring my customers' lives are not impacted any more than is necessary for our work to be completed.
Residential remodel and restoration is what we do, so our preparation, set-up and protection of the job site and the landscaping is very important.
We do commercial improvement work where we bring the same eye for unique detail that is needed for restoration work on residential remodels.
